I’m excited to share the wonderful outcome of our recent school supply drive at Dance Arts Academy. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected over 500 supplies that are now supporting schools in our afterschool programs. But this event was about more than just gathering supplies – it was about coming together, lifting each other up, and experiencing the profound well-being that comes from serving others.
Throughout the day, UC, Irvine alumni volunteers joined us not only to sort supplies but also to dance, connect, and be part of something bigger than themselves. In the process, we all had the chance to step away from our daily challenges and focus on the joy of giving back. There’s something incredibly healing about shifting our attention from our own problems to doing good in the world. It’s a reminder that in serving others, we often find the relief and fulfillment we seek.
The highlight of the day was watching our students perform after their class, led by UCI alum Cindy El. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, reminding us all of the powerful impact of arts education on young lives. It was a beautiful moment that underscored why we do what we do at Dance Arts Academy – to empower, inspire, and bring joy through the arts.
I’m deeply grateful to Laguna Beach Stu News (click here to read article) for recognizing the work we do and for featuring myself and our dedicated teaching assistant, Celeste. Community service isn’t just about making a difference in others’ lives; it’s also about nurturing our own well-being. By coming together and giving back, we create a ripple effect of positivity that benefits everyone involved.
Let’s continue to find ways to serve, uplift, and support each other. Together, we can make the world a little brighter – and in doing so, we often find our own light shines a bit brighter too.
With gratitude,
Sakina Ibrahim
